Fishponds at Mailisita with Masasi Hill in the
background. Fish are a welcome addition to the villagers' diet.

Cattle and goats are placed with villagers such as this one at
Ruangwa. They then give back to the project the first offspring of
their beast to be given to others.

seed is kept here before being distributed in the villages in
co-operation with various Aid agencies.

Sixteen years of working together is a
highlight of the “Diocesan response” to the needs of the local
community – 1990 to 2006.
The “Community Based Empowerment Programme (COBEP)”, was evolved
from a “needs assessment study” commissioned by the Diocese of
Masasi in 1988. The results were then, discussed at the Diocesan
Development Committee and eventually, “COBEP” was developed in 1990
covering the following areas:
- Agricultural Practices
- Agroforestry and Conversation
- Livestock Rearing and Fish Farming
- Water Supply and Sanitation
- Relief and Rehabilitation
The Goal of the Diocese is to develop a community-driven
development and management capacity of the people so that they can
identify and find out solutions to their problems and enable them to
enjoy the full life of God’s Kingdom.
The broad objectives of the Diocese include strengthening
community development groups (small scale farmers, youth, women and
physically disadvantaged) that they might acquire knowledge/skills
related to their development issues, and to motivate and mobilise
people to utilise available local resources within their localities
that can help them to start viable and sustainable development
projects.
