and the old one |
St Cyprian’s College came to Rondo from Namasakata in 1962 when
Bishop Trevor Huddleston bought the site and buildings of a logging
company. Here over the years priests and their wives have been
trained for work in the Diocese. Here they learn to use and treasure
their Liturgical and Scriptural heritage, and are trained in using
their pastoral and social gifts. The wives of the ordinands are also
helped to prepare themselves for life in the parish where they will
often have to lead the women and teach children.
Rondo Junior Seminary is a registered Secondary School where boys
and girls are trained in a church environment. It was only begun in
1998, and has three classes with a total of 70 students.
We are delighted to report that the Junior Seminary students have
gained excellent examination results this year. The Form II
students did particularly well in their national examinations and
the Seminary achieved 2nd place out of 119 secondary schools in the
Southern Zone and achieved the the highest results of all schools in
the Lindi Region.
The usual syllabus is followed, with a special emphasis on
Agriculture and Self-reliance.
The Diocese has sponsored or been directly involved in the setting
up of Kindergarten Schools at Mkomaindo, Chiwata, Mtwara and Newala.
These not only help mothers to gain extra space for their work, but
also benefit the children by providing them with the necessary
learning skills which will be useful later when they begin Primary
School.
Lulindi School is a boarding school for children with special needs,
with about sixty students on the books. Recently it has received
help from benefactors in Italy to rebuild the classrooms and
dormitories.
