The Dispensary in Luatala

The Maternity Unit in Luatala

The Investigation Room at Rondo Dispensary

The needs of women and children are cared for at all the Dispensaries and Clinics and most of them run a Preventive Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and Curative outreach service. There is a mobile clinic and Child Feeding Centres at the villages of Mchokonyo, Kachulu, Marambo and Mbonde.

The three Dispensaries of Chidya, Luatala and Rondo are also clinics and have Maternity Units as part of their service.

Each Health Centre has an outreach service for Preventive MCH work. The health workers at Rondo, for example, have an MCH programme in the villages of Mitanga, Mnara, Chikombe and Mkanga.

There is also a Dispensary for Leprosy Patients at Lulindi. This was a very large Leprosarium in the past when those with Leprosy were often cast out from their villages and had to seek refuge in camps such as Lulindi. Its main task today is to distribute medicines to those who need them, although there are still a few older patients left living at Lulindi.

One other medical work sponsored by the Diocese is the Eye Clinic at Mkomaindo Hospital.

This was the main Diocesan Hospital until it was handed over to the State in the sixties and the Diocese is happy to be able to be still associated with this small part of the medical outreach of the Hospital.
